NOTE: The picture to the right
is Napoleon, Sarah and Lemuel
Clark at the age of months. The
baby boy was their grandson. He
was the son of Lemuel Homer Long
and Susan Elizabeth "Clark" Long.
The picture was taken on March,
8th, 1914.
I have the original picture. "When this part of Oklahoma was opened
to settlement, Napoleon made the race in
1891 & homesteaded a farm N.E. of Arlington.
Napoleon moved his family to Oklahoma in
1892 and to Prague in 1910.
He had engaged in the mercantile business in
Prague, Ok. at that time. Napoleon was among
the early pioneer builders who came to Prague
and built and sold numerous town sites. Later,
his son Eura E. Long operated the Bon Ton
Confectionary in his father's original business
building. This building is still standing on
main street in Prague and is occupied.
'Nip' opened the Peoples Store and built
three houses on C Avenue and Main. One of
the homes has been restored and can be seen
one block off main street today. His heirs
owned & donated part of the land where the
City Park is now located.
The Long family were well known for hosting
huge 4th of July celebrations at their home. They
hosted all their friends and family of Prague who
wanted to attend the celebration.
They made it a grand get-together and everyone attended
with picnic baskets in hand, visiting, eating and celebrating the 4th.
Napoleon united with the Missionary Baptist
Church about thirty-five years ago in Arkansas
& remained a faithful member to the First Baptist
Church in Prague to the day of his death.
Napoleon and Sarah were well respected & well
loved in this early pioneer town in Indian Territory, Oklahoma.

After a lengthy illness, Napoleon died January
19th,1916, at 4:00 p.m. in Prague. He had sold
out his business in Prague 2 years before he
decided to moved to Corpus Christi, Texas.
Napoleon was hoping to recuperate there, but
the move and climate didn't help him. Just
after a few months in living in Texas, they
moved back again to Prague to live out his
remaining days.

Funeral services were held at the home on a Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. McElvaney, & the burial was
in the Prague Cemetery.
Napoleon Bradford Long was survived by his wife, Sarah & eleven of his children.

Napoleon Bradford Long was my Great
Grandfather, Rev. Robert Houston Long's
younger brother. Napoleon's family
has recorded the family history for many
years and has a book that contains the
family history of John Long 1 and Mary
'Haynes' Long up to the present day.
His family member traveled and collected
a great amount of research on Napoleon's
family lineage many years ago.

Napoleon B. Long, and his older brother,Maples
Pleasant Long were married to sisters.
Sarah and Elizabeth's sister Nancy, was married
to John 'Larkin' Holt. He was the brother of
Henry Holt, who was the father-in=law of Rev.
Robert H. Long. Rev. Robert's wife was Lucinda
'Holt' Long, her father being Henry. (My 'PALR'
great grandparents).

My thanks to Lester for placing the picture on
Napoleon's memorial page. Also to Sherry for
taking the time and effort to find Napoleon's
tombstone and taking the picture for me.
