of Maples Long & Mahala 'Atchley'
Long. She was the 7th child and the
couple's 5th daughter. At the time of
her death, Mary was 15.
Mary was the granddaughter of Rev. George
W. Long 1 and Nancy 'Elizabeth' Maples Long.
Also Benjamin Atchley and Martha 'Patty'
Chambers Atchley. She was the great grand-
daughter of Thomas Atchley and Lydia
'Richards' Atchley and also James Chambers
and Elizabeth 'Daugherty' Chambers.
Research is being done to find the location
of Mary's burial. More than likely, she is
buried where her infant sister, Martha was
buried.
NOTE: Update, the girls are buried in the
Old Long/Pate cemetery in Sevier Co., near
Sevierville, Tennessee. It's possible this
cemetery could be under a different name
today?
The cemetery is located on private property.
Several of the graves aren't marked with a
tombstone, and many have been broken and
lying in pieces or partly buried. Also some
are reported to be marked with large field
stones.
This info was reported by a visit of a
Long/Atchley family member in Dec., 2012.
He found some pieces of the Longs tombstones
and also some of the Atchley family members
buried in this cemetery. Pictures were taken
at the time of their visit.
