The couple had one child, a daughter, Mahala
Melvina Burchfield, born Aug. 5, 1845; Mahala
Melvina Burchfield married John Wilburn Moore

her mother died. She was abt. 15 when she married
John W. Moore.
Cyntha 'Long' Burchfield and Eliga Burchfield's
marriage ended in a divorce in 1852.

Cyntha later met and married John Thomas
abt. 1853/54, in Sevier Co., Tennessee. This family
moved to Arkansas with their daughter, Nancy
L. Thomas and with Cyntha's daughter, Mahala Melvina
in 1859. They located on a farm in Crooked Creek,

4 years old and Mahala was abt.14. Nancy was the
only child of Cyntha and John's to be born in
Tennessee, the others were born in Arkansas.
Cyntha and John had 7 children:

Bunia Vesta Thomas

Sadly he was killed by bushwackers. A little later
Cynthia made her home with their youngest daughter,

The 5 generation picture was in 1915.
At this time Cyntha was 87 years old, being
born in 1828, Sevier Co., Tennessee.

At the time the picture was published, it had
the following caption under it. (NOTE: There
wouldn't be anyone to make the names up and
place them under the picture)? Ask your self
why would the family or anyone else make up
those two names?

These ladies are members of the following
early Boone County families: Long, Maples,
Atchley, Burchfield, Moore, Saddox, Jones
and Villines. >>>also>>>

Cyntha Long's parents were Maples Long and
Mahala Atchley Long. Her grandparents were
George Long 1 and Nancy Maples and Great
Grandparents were John Long and Mary Haynes.
*******************************************
A researcher has questioned the story of Rev.
George W. Long 1, stating it couldn't be
the story/obit of his death. But IT is!
Cyntha would have been 21 years old at the
time of her grandfather, Rev. George W. Long 1
death. She would have known the story about
his death and attended his funeral. She also
would have certainly known about her grandfather's
parents, John and Mary. She had been married
in Sevier Co., Tennessee and had her daughter, Mahala Melvina 'Burchfield' Moore, which is age 70 in the picture. Melvina would have been 4 at the time her g grandfather,
Rev. George W. Long 1 died.

Cyntha 'Long' knew her grandparents and
her great grandparent's names. She died
before the Horn book was printed, she had
passed this information about her grandparents
and great grandparents to her children and
grandchildren. Cyntha's father, Maples, had the
old family Bible that contained their names and
John's Rev. War Papers, seeing it many times
in her parents home. Her grandson, son of
Mahala Melvina lived to be 108. He retired at
the age of 100, giving an interview for the local
paper, he gave the lineage of the Long family,
from his great grandfather, Maples Long, back
to his gg grandparents, John Long and Mary 'Haynes'
Long. He also gave an audio interview about the family history. He had been told this by his mother,
and his grandmother! The names given by our
family members to each other and the stories
of their lives in Tennessee.

The spelling on tombstone is: Cyntha
Some personal original letters from family
members does spell it Cyntha. These new
found very old letters and postcards are in
my possession at this time as well as new
pictures of the family. Many more original
things are now being researched at this
time concerning the Long, Atchley, Maples'
and Moore families.
