George Long III was a Baptist preacher, the son of Maples Long. He was one of 15 children. He settled in Greene Co from the state of AR. He married Elizabeth Lindsey. He served in the civil war as a CPL with the 8th Missouri State Militia and was captured by the Confederate troops after being wounded. He later served as Chaplin. He started Rose Hill Baptist Church in 1876 and donated land for a new church and cemetery in 1888, where Rose Hill Baptist Church now stands. He helped start several Baptist churches in Mo. and Arkansas. On April 27, 2010, Burl Hall, the youngest son of his youngest daughter, was laid to rest in Rose Hill Cemetery. There are still at least 40 descendants of George still attending Rose Hill Church. In addition to the children listed below, he is also the father of David L Long, and a daughter Delilah (Long) Raper.
