Mahala "Atchey" Long was the daughter
of Benjamin Atchley and Martha (Patty)
"Chambers" Atchley.
Her parents were married Aug. 11, 1811
in Sevier County, Tennessee. Mahala was
born 21 June, 1813 in Sevier Co.,
Tennessee, as were all of her sibblings.
She had eight brothers and three sisters.
Mahala's grandparents were Thomas and
Lydia "Richards" Atchley and James and
Elizabeth "Dougherty" Chambers.
Her father served in the war of 1812 and
her grandfather, Thomas Atchley was in the
Revolutionary War. Mahala's mother was of
the Cherokee Tribe, being 1/2 Cherokee,
making Mahala 1/4 Cherokee. The family has
a copy of the document of Mahala stating
these facts.

Mahala Atchley was married to Maples Long
March 4, 1827 in Sevier Co., Tennessee.
Maples Long was the son of Rev. George W.
Long 1 and Nancy Elizabeth "Maples" Long.
Grandson of John Long 1 and Mary "Haynes"
Long and Noah Maples and Virginia Rebecca
"Langston" Long. This member of the Long
family has an original history page written
by Rev. Robert H. Long, stating these facts
on his grandmother

Maples and Mahala moved their family in
1857 from Tennessee to Arkansas. They
settled six miles from Harrison, Boone Co
Arkansas. They were the parents of 15
children: In order:
1. Cynthia - 2. George 111 (Rev)
3. Benjamin - 4. Martha - 5. Nancy
6. Rhoda - 7. Mary Minerve - 8. Marion
9. Elizabeth - 10. Robert Houston(Rev.)
11. Casander - 12. Lemuel Dugan
13. Napoleon Bradford
14. Maples Pleasant
15. Hana Mahala
All the children were born in Sevier
Co., Tennessee, with the exception of
Rhoda, she was born in McMinn Co., Tn,
when her family was visiting Moses and
Rhoda 'Atchley' Long. Moses was the
oldest brother to her father, Maples.
Rhoda 'Long' Atchley was named for
her Aunt Rhoda 'Atchley' Long. Rhoda
'Atchley' Long, daughter of Thomas Atchley
and Lydia 'Richards' Atchley.
Their daughters, Martha, who was born
and died the same year, 1833, and
Mary Minerve, who was born in 1839,
died at an early age of 15, both are
buried in Sevier Co., Tennessee. The
location of their burials are being
searched at this time. More than
likely, in the old Long/Pate cemetery in
Sevier Co., Tennessee?

Maples Long donated the land for
the "Long Cemetery" Boone County,
Arkansas on his farm place. It is
not far from their home, which
still exist today. He set aside
this plot of land when their two
daughters, Elizabeth and Casander
was instantly killed during a lightning
storm which hit them sitting at the
piano in the family home. The sisters
were buried together and the first to
be buried in the 'Long' cemetery.
Their daughter, Rhoda 'Long' Atchley
and her husband, Claiborn' are
buried here in the family cemetery.
Their son, Marion and his wife,
Rebecca are also buried here.

Mahala was a very loving mother,
wife and grandmother, who worked
very hard. She lived on the farm
raising her children and helping
her husband, Maples. She was a
devoted Christian lady, Baptist
by faith.
