Hana Mahala 'Long' Dacus was born Jan. 1, 1857, in Sevier Co., Tennessee. She was the youngest child of Maples Long and Mahala 'Atchley' Long. She was the grandaughter of Rev.George W. Long 1 and Nancy Elizabeth 'Maples' Long and Benjamin Atchley and Martha 'Chambers' Atchley.

Her parents moved to at that time, Carroll County,
Arkansas from Sevier County, Tennessee, in Sept., 1957. Later Carroll county was divided and some of it became Boone County. Her family settled near Harrison, Boone County, Arkansas, on a large farm. Hana was just a
baby at that time.
One Sunday afternoon, the family gathered after lunch to hear the older girls play the piano and all sing. Elizabeth, Hana's older sister, was holding her and Casander was playing the piano. A sudden lighting storm came up & hit both of the older girls. Elizabeth and Casander were killed instantly, the baby Hana was burned badly on her back. She had a scar for the rest of her life. Their mother, Mahala was also hit, but recovered, the home was slightly damaged.
On July 4, 1875, she was married to Jonathan W. Dacus, in Boone County, Arkansas. The couple were the parents of 9 children: Robert Henry, Emley Lavada, Laverna C., Margaret M., William, Arthur L., Arvil C., Clarence Albert, and Roy Dacus.
Her husband, Jonathan W. Dacus died during 1897, in Benton Co., Ark. Hana sometime later moved her family to West Texas where she lived out her life.
Hana was 14 when she became a member of the Baptist Church. She was a devoted Christian, living her life and working in the church. Hana was an invalid for about 20 years, and for the greater part of that time was bedfast. She remained a strong Chistian, never wavering in her faith.
Hana was a loving daughter, mother and wife. She was dearly loved by her friends and family.
