Marion was a Pvt. in Companies, I and F in the 8th Regt., Missouri Calvary, from the time he enlisted in 1863, until May, 1864 when he was transferred to Co. K, 11th MO Calvary.. My father, Joe M. Long, a grandson of Marions, (Elisha Clark's)son, when he said that he asked his Granddaddy if he ever got shot in the war, Marion told him that he was loading his Navie Colt (chained to his belt) and was holding the reins of his horse in his mouth and a sharpshooter shot the reins out of his mouth, but did not hit him or his horse.
