Funeral Services Set Friday For A.R. Kennington
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov 27 at 12 noon in the Fairview Ward Chapel, Bp. E.Morrell Allred conducting, for Alonzo Richard (Lon) Kennington 90, long time resident of Fairview and early Star Valley pioneer who passed away quietly Nov 23, 1964 at his home in Fairview.
Mr Kennington was born at Liberty, Idaho Sept.2, 1874, a son of William Henry and Annie Rebecca Seward Kennington. The family moved to Star Valley in 1887.
He married Susan Dixon, daughter of Harvey and Susan Elizabeth Harmon Dixon, in the Logan Temple on Sept 29, 1899. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last September. To them were born 14 children, nine of whom are still living.
In 1900 they moved to Fairview where they reared their large family and successfully operated a cattle and sheep ranch on Bitter Creek.
Mr Kennington was a missionary for the LDS Church three different times. He was counselor to three different bishops in the Fairview ward for 12 years. He was a stake high councilman for several years, was superintendent of the MIA and Sunday School, a ward teacher and ward teacher supervisor, and was a teacher in the Sunday School, MIA and priesthood quorums.
He was a prominent citizen, always active in civic and religious affairs, never too busy to do his duty to God and man.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; daughters, Mrs Charles (Maud) Ranzenberg, Fairview; Mrs Rulon (Norma) Osmond, Freedom; Mrs E. LaVere (Deon) Johns, Afton; Mrs Ray M (KarLee) Thurman, Grover; sons, Harvey, Arch. L.D. and Dick Kennington, all of Fairview; and A.R. Jr., Layton, Utah; 44 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; also two brothers A.E. Kennington, Afton; and Ira L. Kennington, Preston, Idaho.
Two daughters and three sons preceded him in death.
A large crowd attended the funeral services of A.R. Kennington last Friday when friends and relatives came from nearly every town in the valley. Those from out of the valley who attended were: Mr and Mrs Stanley Nielsen and family of Hyde Park, Utah; Lyman Dixon of Gooding, Idaho; Mr and Mrs Richard Osmond of Price, Utah; Mr and Mrs Robert Osmond of Hyde Park, Utah; Mr and Mrs Lael Allred and family of Logan; Mr and Mrs LaVell Kennington and family of Perry, Utah; Donald and Grant Kennington of Ogden; Phillip Kennington of Salt Lake City; Mr and Mrs Junior Kennington and family of Clearfield, Utah; Mr and Mrs Lovell Shumway of Brigham City; Mr and Mrs Kay Allred of Orem, Utah; Mr and Mrs John Sandberg and family of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mr and Mrs Reed Kennington of Provo; and Garry Crook of
