George Harvey Kennington, 91, long time resident and rancher of Fairview, died July 12, 1998 in Afton.
Funeral services were held July 15, 1998 at the Fairview ward. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery.
He was born Nov 9, 1906 in Fairview, the fourth child of Alonzo Richard and Ida Dixon Kennington.
Harv loved the cowboy way of life and from an early age spent time in the hills on horseback. For 20 years he herded cattle out of Ephriam Valley for the cattleman from Bear Lake. He had many dear friends from Bear Lake Valley and Star Valley.
He homesteaded a ranch on Crow Creek, ID next to the Fred Beyeler ranch, there he met Virginia Beyeler. They enjoyed riding together in the hills and attending parties in the valley. Five years later on June 26, 1929 they were married in the Logan Temple.
Harv was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served on the high council for many years and as a bishop of the Fairview ward for almost 10 years. He loved his calling as bishop and appreciated and enjoyed the close friendship he had with everyone in Fairview, those who were members and those who were not.
Virginia died on April 3, 1979. After her death Harv continued to operate the ranch until he was 89 years old. Then he moved in a house he built on the old Kennington family ranch close to where he was born.
Harv is survived by five children, Phil Kennington, Sandy, UT; Donald Kennington, Ogden UT; Grant Kennington, Fresno, CA; Anna Mae Anderson, Salt Lake City UT and Lynette Beus, Fairview; 36 grandchildren, 102 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia and a son LaVell
