Susan Maud Kennington Ranzenberg, 86, of Fairview, died Sept 5, 1986 at the star Valley Hospital in Afton.
Funeral Services were held Monday, Sept 8, 1986 at 1 p.m. in the Osmond Three-Ward Chapel with Bp McKell Allred conducting. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery.
She was born July 19, 1900 in Fairview, Wyo. to Alonzo Richard and Ida Dixon Kennington. She was married to Charles Ranzenberg June 39, 1920 in the Logan Temple. She lived in Fairview all her life.
Maud started teaching school in 1920 in Bedford and taught 25 years at Bedford, Merna, Fairview and Afton.
Maud was very active in the LDS Church, and has served in numerous positions in all the ward auxiliaries, holding several stake positions. She was talented in music and has been both chorister and organist as well as an active genealogist. She and Charles served a stake mission together.
She compiled over a dozen family books with pictures, genealogy, letters, cards and news clippings and had over 30 scrapbooks about ward and valley members. As an avid journal keeper she provided needed information to many.
She served as a correspondent for the Independent for many years. When books about Star Valley were written she helped research information for them, furnishing dates, pictures and stories.
She taught library classes in school and served as Afton Branch Librarian for the Lincoln Co. Library, worked in the Star Valley Red Cross chapter for a number of years and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma honorary teachers society.
Charles and Maud raised three daughters, Velda, Geraldine and Ida Lynn and one son Leo Kay (who died in 1965). They helped raise a niece, Norda Beth Smith, whose mother passed away when Norda was a baby. Her hobbies included handicrafts, reading, stamp collecting, traveling, and growing flowers.
She is survived by three daughters and a niece; Mrs Jesse (Velda) Hurd, Auburn; Mrs Lorain (Geraldine) Bagley, Fairview; Mrs Dee (Ida Lynn) Hokanson, Freedom and Mrs Eugene (Norda Beth) Tenney, Salt Lake City; four brothers, Harvey, Arch, L.D., and Goldie and three sisters, Mrs Rulon (Norma) Osmond, Mrs LaVere (Deon) Johns, Mrs Karlee Thurman; 22 grandchildren and 62 great grandchildren.
