Mrs. L.H. Stoffer, of Afton passed away at her home in Afton early Wednesday morning from the effects of a stroke, presumably brought on by a goiter. She fist suffered from a stroke about a week ago and while at time seemed to improve suffered terribly during the last few day from convulsions.
Mrs Stoffer was the daughter of Wm H. and Elizabeth Kennington, two of the first settlers in Star Valley, Mrs Stoffer was born October 18 1887, being among the first children to be born in the valley. she has spent practically all of her life in Afton and at the age of 16, about 23 years ago, was married to L.H. Stoffer. To this union were born six children, Anetta, Fred, Laverl, Althea, Gerald and Wayne Lee, a baby born about ten day ago. Besides her husband and the above named children she leaves five brothers to mourn for her namely; Hyrum, John, Sam and Ira Kennington and Frank Bracken.
Mrs Stoffer was known and loved by all the people of Afton, and most all of the people of both Star Valleys. She has always been ready and willing to help in time of need, and was an excellent mother as is evidenced by her large and well respected family.
Funeral services were held in the South Ward Chapel today at 1 o'clock and it was one of the largest funerals held in the valley for years.
The opening song, "Sometime We'll Understand" was very beautifully rendered by the choir.
Prayer by Bro. Thos. Walton.
A song, "Face to Face" was sang by Mrs Ona Harrison.
President Clarence Gardner then gave a talk on being prepared to meet our God at all times as we never know when we will be called.
A Violin Duet "O My Father" was rendered by Arling and Arch Gardner, which brought the congregation to tears.
Bishop Osborne Low then gave a talk on the life and works of Mrs Stoffer, which emphasized her noble character and excellent life.
The Gardner boys rendered a quartet "Old Shattered Picture" in a very commendable manner.
Bishop C. J. Call next gave a short talk regarding the life and work of Mrs Stoffer with respect to the help she was in the ward.
Closing Song "God Be With You Till We Meet Again"/
Benediction by Pres. A. F. Burton.
The casket and pulpit were adorned with an immense amount of floral offerings, which perhaps surpassed any that have ever been contributed at a funeral here, only a small portion of them could be placed on the casket, there were so many.
A large cortège followed the body to its last resting place in the Afton cemetery.
