Robert Harmon Broadwater, 87, of Frostburg, formerly of Lonaconing, most recently of Frostburg Nursing and Rehab, went to be with the Lord Thursday, July 4, 2019.
Robert was born May 14, 1932, in Garrett County, the youngest of 16 children of the late Harmon Broadwater and Harriet (Bittinger) Broadwater.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Ethel (Skidmore) Broadwater, whom he married July 17, 1967; infant daughter, Amy Broadwater; two grandsons, Jerod Beeman and Jason Beeman; 14 siblings, Minnie Broadwater, Dorothy Sutherland, Della Beeman, Flossie Beeman, Edith Long, Teresa Broadwater, Nellie Llewellyn, Myrtle Broadwater, Rosella Rounds, Lillie Broadwater, Howard Broadwater, Grover Broadwater, Edward Broadwater and Herbert Broadwater.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Katherine Thomas, of Barton; granddaughter, Dawn Beeman and fiancé, Jeremy Clark, of Barton; grandson, Jonathan Beeman, of Lonaconing; sister, Thelma Ickes, of Grantsville; special niece, Joyce Lechliter, of LaVale; special nephew, Galen Broadwater, of Barton; new friend he made in the nursing home, his roommate, Blaine McKenzie; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Robert was retired from the housekeeping department at Frostburg State University.
In his younger years Robert tended the old home place farm where he was born. He was an excellent gardener and had many vegetable gardens. He also worked on cars for family and friends in his spare time and even painted a few. He passed on his mechanical knowledge to his grandson, Jason. Robert was a fabulous self-taught fiddle and guitar player and played in a few groups throughout the years. He would also have jam sessions with family and friends just for fun. He really enjoyed his music and took pride in it.
Robert's family thanks the staff at Frostburg Nursing and Rehab who cared for him with compassion.
Friends and family will be received at Boal Funeral Home, Barton, on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, from noon to 2 p.m.
Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the Boal Memorial Chapel.
Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
