LAVALE — Grover Cornelius Broadwater, 90, of LaVale, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born April 1, 1919, in the Savage River area of Garrett County, he was the son of the late Harman Grover Broadwater and Harriett Catherine (Bittinger) Broadwater. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Margaret (Fraley) Broadwater, in 1993.

Grover was retired from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, where he had been a tire builder.

He faithfully attended the Frostburg Church of the Nazarene.

From the age of 12, Grover enjoyed playing his fiddle. He played for many community events, including Canal Fest, Grantsville Days, at Penn Alps, and local nursing homes. He won numerous fiddle competitions throughout the tri-state area for the past 30 years.

He is survived by his son, Gary W. Broadwater and wife Diane, of Hedgesville, W.Va.; three daughters, Phyllis M. Broadwater, of West Mifflin, Pa., Joyce L. Lechliter and husband Bill, of Cumberland, and Tami L. Rickey and husband Jeff, of Chesterfield, Va.; eight grandchildren, Shelley Rice and husband Rich, Jennifer Salinas and husband Francisco, Mark Lechliter and wife Jaynea, Autumn Bittinger, Nicholas Bittinger, Nathaniel Broadwater and wife Angie, Adel Broadwater, and Matthew Rickey; 11 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Madison, Sydney, Drake, Jessica, Hope Josiah, Isaiah, Faith, Jordan, and Ezekiel.

Grover was one of 16 children and is now survived by one brother, Robert Broadwater, of Lonaconing, and three sisters, Rosella Rounds, of Grantsville, Lillie Broadwater, of Barton, and Thelma Ickeys, of Salisbury, Pa.

Friends will be received at the Hafer Funeral Service, P.A., Chapel of the Hills, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from noon until 1 p.m.

The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Timothy Smith officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
