Obituary:
Thomas A. Hartman, 87, Franklin died April 8, 1996, at the Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin.

Mr. Hartman was born October 8, 1908, at Smith Creek and was a son of the late Isaac Perry and Lucy Vandevander Hartman.

He was a member of Smith Creek Church of the Brethren and had been employed at Nielsen Construction company in Harrisonburg for several years. He was also a carpenter and farmer.

Survivors include one son, Paul Hartman, Dayton, Virginia, seven daughters, Sylvia Hartman, Stella Hartman, Donna Hipp, Cynthia Hartman and Jodi Johnson, all of Franklin, Diana Crawford, Harrisonburg, Virginia, and Angela Puffenbarger, Sugar Grove; three sisters, Vergie Simmons, Dora Murphy and Buanna Judy, all of Franklin; one brother, Harry Hartman, Franklin; and nine grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Smith Creek Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Charles Comer officiating. Burial was in the Johnston-Hartman Cemetery at Smith Creek.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.
