Charles Cletus Hartman, 87, Martinsburg, died July 29, 1987, at Martinsburg City Hospital of pneumonia.

He was born December 30, 1899, at Zigler and was the son of the late Isaac Perry and Lucy (Vandevander) Hartman.

Mr. Hartman was a former farmer and lumberman and had lived in Harrisonburg several years where he worked at a bakery and Jesse's Quick Lunch Restaurant. He was a member of the Martinsburg Church of the Brethren.

On December 5, 1924 he married Martha Alice Simmons who survives. Also surviving are one son, Berlie Lee Hartman, Martinsburg; two daughters, Bonnie Mae Roberts and Mariana Smith, both of Martinsburg; three brothers, Arthur Hartman, Keyser, Thomas and Harry Hartman, both of Franklin; seven sisters, Bessie Lambert, Accomac, Virginia; Fannie Bodkin, Brandywine; Mary Johnston, Pendleton Nursing Home; Vergie Simmons, Dora Murphy, Nettie Moyers and Buanna Judy, all of Franklin; seven grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren. Three sisters, Retta Pennington, Gertie Lambert and Martha Simmons, preceded him in death.

The funeral was conducted 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Rosedale Funeral Chapel and burial was in the Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.
