Mrs. Martha Ellen Simmons, 76, of Franklin, died Tuesday morning, May 12, 1987, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, Virginia, where she had been a patient for two weeks.

Mrs. Simmons was born May 22, 1910, at Zigler and was a daughter of the late Isaac Perry and Lucy Vandevander Hartman. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

On October 14, 1928, she married W. Floyd Simmons, who survives. Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Marthenna Hartman of Franklin, four sons, Glenn Simmons of Pt. Pleasant, Stanley Simmons of Denison, Texas, Garry Simmons of Port Republic, Virginia and Jesse Simmons of Piqua, Ohio; Seven sisters, Bessie Lambert of Accomac, Virginia, Fannie Bodkin of Brandywine, Mary Johnston of Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin, Vergie Simmons, Dora Murphy, Nettie Moyers and Buanna Judy, all of Franklin; four brothers, Charlie Hartman of Martinsburg, Arthur Hartman of Piedmont, Tom Hartman and Harry Hartman of Franklin; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Franklin by Elders Larry Hartman, David Hartman and Leslie Hartman, and burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin Thursday night from 7-9 o'clock.
