Richard S. Hughes Rites Thursday

Funeral services for Richard S. Hughes, 85, of 2730 South Grand Ave. E., who died at 12:40 p.m. yesterday at his residence will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bisch Memorial home. Mr. Robert Miller will officiate and burial will be in East Waverly Cemetery.
Mr. Hughes was a former motorman on Springfield street cars and later was employed at the Edwards & Chapman laundry. He had been retired for 15 years. Mr. Hughes was born Jan. 23, 1863, in Macoupin county. On Feb. 22, 1893, he married Minnie J. Herron. He was a member of the South Seventh Street Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife; six sons, Nicholas, Jacksonville; Wesley Carl and Richard, all of city; Charles, Lynnwood, Calif., and Clark, Denver, Colo.; one stepson, Otis Flynn, Baylis; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Samples, Jacksonville, and Mrs. Clara Harford, city; two brothers, Lewis, Centralia, and Oscar, city; one sister, Mrs. Clara Palmer, city, and 27 grandchildren.
