George Wilder Snyder was the son of George G. Snyder and Sarah Wilder Hatch Snyder. George Wilder Snyder was born in Eldorado Co., California in 1850. His parents had fled Nauvoo in 1846, living in St. Joseph, Missouri for a couple of years before continuing on to the Salt Lake Valley in 1849. In the spring of 1850 they continued on to the gold fields of California where George Snyder built a boarding house and a ranch. George Wilder Snyder was born there. The family remained in California until 1854 when they returned to Salt Lake City.
Over the next seventeen years, the Snyder family lived in many communities of Utah where they built saw mills, boarding houses, farms, and ranches. George's mother, Sarah, died in Bountiful in 1861 when he was just 11 years old.
In September of 1871 at the age of 20, George contracted thyphoid fever and succumbed. He is buried in the Salt Lake City cemetery but has no headstone.

FROM THURSDAYS DAILY
The funeral ceremonies of Brother George W. Snyder, son of Elder George G. Snyder, were attended this morning in a grove behind the residence of Brother Ephraim Snyder, in the 6th ward, where were assembled a large number of the relatives and friends of the deceased. The meeting was addressed by Elders Franklin D. Richards, George Q. Cannon and Sam'l W. Richards.
