Louis was just six years old when his mother died, leaving three small children in the care of her sister, Caroline. He had two siblings, Nellie and Willard.
Louis's extended family lived in several communities in northern Utah. His father developed many business, including farms, saw mills, boarding houses and livery stables. Louis worked on all these projects when old enough.
Louis married Janet Gray and lived in Park City, Utah when he was 23 years old. He was a farmer and rancher and owned stables in the Park City area. He also worked in the mining business.
Janet and Louis had nine children. Two of their sons died young in Park City.
In 1905, the family moved to Idaho where Louis continued in the farming business. Janet died in 1937 and Louis lived until 1945. They are buried in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Louis A. Snyder, for many years a well known and highly respected resident of Park City, passed away at the Hollywood home of his daughter, Martha Snyder, December 10, after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at the Graham and Isbell Mortuary after which the remains were taken to Twin Falls, Idaho, for interment beside his wife, Janet Gray Snyder.
He was the eldest son of George G. and Martha K. Snyder and was born at Salt Lake City, August 17, 1859, and recently celebrated his 86th birthday with a family party and reception at his daughter's home in Hollywood.
At the age of 15, the family moved to Park City, where he continued to reside until 1900, when he moved to Salt Lake City. In Park City, he and his brother, Frank owned and operated the Dexter Livery Stables at the foot of Main street, which they later sold to Kimball Brothers. He also owned and operated a dairy farm adjoining the Col. Ferry home at the mouth of Thaynes canyon.
When the Snake River dam was completed at Milner, Idaho, and the Twin Falls tract was opened in 1905, he and his family were among the first settlers and took an active part in the physical and cultural development of its wonderful resources.
Surviving are the following children; William and Lee, Jerome, Idaho; Dewey and May, Seattle, Washington; Martha Snyder and Rilla Procter, Hollywood. Also the following sisters and brothers; Luna S. Bowman, Zina S. Sherpherd; Jennie, Gideon and Grant, Los Angeles, California; Brigg, Redondo Beach and Dr. C.C. Snyder, pasadena, and H.G. Snyder, Salt lake City.
