Sarah and her family had traveled west to Nauvoo after joining the LDS Church. She met George G. Snyder in Jobs Creek, Illinois and they were married in 1842. Both the Snyder family and the Hatch family were from the same area in New York, so it is possible they had traveled west together.
Sarah and George had two sons born in Nauvoo, Illinois and both died in infancy while still in Nauvoo. Their first daughter, Emily, was born in Nauvoo and then a 4th child, daughter, Lucy, was born in Missouri. The family fled Nauvoo along with their extended families. After arriving in winter quarters, they moved south to the Jefferson, Missouri area and on to SLC in the fall of 1849.
The family spent the winter in the Salt Lake Valley and by spring, continued on to Eldorado, California. George built a boarding house for the forty-niners and Sarah cooked and ran the boarding house. They remained there until 1853, running the boarding house and a ranch that George had bought in Eldorado, County. They had two more children during that time, George, and Lovisa, born in the Diamond Springs, Eldorado Co., California area. In 1854, they returned to the Salt Lake Valley.
George and Sarah Snyder had homes in several areas of Utah, including South Jordan, SLC, Sessions Settlement (Davis Co.), Wellsville. Over the next ten years, George married five more women. Sarah gave birth to three more children, and those three children died in infancy or as toddlers. Sally gave birth to her last son, Isaac, in 1861 at the family farm in North Salt Lake. Isaac survived just a few hours and Sally died about two weeks later. She left four young children.
Sarah is buried on a small hillside in the Salt Lake Cemetery. At this time, it is not known where Isaac is buried. Sarah was just 39 years old.
In addition to the children listed and linked on this memorial, Sarah had three children whose gravesites are not known but very likely in the Salt Lake Cemetery as two died in homes near that cemetery and the third child died in North Salt Lake (North Kanyon) and Sarah died shortly after him and is buried in the SLC cemetery. Those children are:
Wesley Jordan-born in 1856 and died when about six month
old while family was living at Tanners row
avenues area of SLC.
Isaac -born and died on same day in 1861. He was
born in North Kanyon which is on the south
end of Davis co. in south Bountiful. Sarah
died just two weeks later and is buried in
SLC cemetery.
Sarah Wealthy -born in 1858, died in 1862, a year following
her mother's death. She died in SLC and also
is likely buried in SLC cemetery.
