Ruby and her family lived most of their early years in Summit and Wasatch County, Utah. When Ruby was twenty years old, she moved to Tooele, Utah with her sister who needed a drier climate for medical reasons. When she was twenty-eight years old, Ruby met and married William Brown. Ruby and her husband lived the next 19 years in Tooele and Stockton while her husband worked in the mining industry. They had three children. She had two daughters who died young, one as an infant and one daughter, Virginia, died at the birth of her first child. Her son, Lloyd Brown survived his mother. She also had four grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren at the time of her death.
William Brown died in 1928. Ruby and her two children eventually moved back to Park City where she and her sister, Rose, (whose husband had also died in 1927) raised their four children together and cared for their aging mother, Rhoda, in their shared home until Rose remarried. Ruby never remarried. She was "Aunt Ruby" to all the family and "Mother Brown" to everyone else.
She lived the last few years of her long life with her son, Lloyd and his wife, Florence, in Kanab, Utah. She died at the age of 102 years of age.
