George Washington Galbreath, Sr., 82, died Sunday in a local nursing home, following an extended illness. The native of Montgomery County was a retired farmer and a member of New Corinth Baptist Church. He resided on Route 1, Ailey.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning from the New Corinth Baptist Church, with the Rev. G.D. Ricketson officiating. The Rev. J.M. Young assisted with the last rites. Interment was in the Galbreath Cemetery with Murchison Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were: I.D. Galbreath, Abbie Thompson, Sam Galbreath, Ray Galbreath, S.L. Galbreath, G.C. Galbreath.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Charles Carey of Augusta and Mrs. Paul B. Jones of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight sons, Robert, Hiram, William and George W. Galbreath, Jr., all of Ailey, Emmett Galbreath of Vidalia, Sgt. John H. Galbreath, U.S. Army, Ft. Hood, Tex., S/Sgt. Daniel W. Galbreath, U.S. Air Force, Edwards AFB, California, Herbert D. Galbreath of Jonesboro; two brothers, Tom and Elijah Galbreath of Vidalia; three sisters, Mrs. Lula Thompson, Mrs. Annie Whitfield, and Mrs. Kate Thompson, all of Vidalia; 29 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
