Oscar L. Ranes Taken Tuesday
Oscar L. (Dick) Ranes, Centerville Route 1, died Tuesday morning, September 25, at the age of 65 years, ten months, and six days.
He was born 19 Nov 1890, near Mendota, Missouri, the son of John and Marie Schoonover Ranes. He was married to Nellie Frances Middleton, who preceded him in death 12 May 1948. He was later married to Vera May Pearson, who survives his passing, along with three children, Harley Ranes, Clyde Ranes, and Mrs. Robert McDonald, all of Centerville. Also surviving are four grandchildren, two brothers, Albert Ranes of Miami, Florida, and William Ranes of Centerville; four sisters, Mrs. Joana Hamilton of Des Moines; Mrs. Edith Iantorno of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Robert Henderson and Mrs. Clyde McGee of Centerville.
Seven step-children also survive. They are Jacqualine Pearson at home; Mrs. Daymon Beans of Luesville, Louisiana; Mrs. Emory Long of Superior, Wyoming; Henry Pearson and Morris Pearson of Monroe; Mrs Robert Jones of Rockford; and Arthur Pearson of San Fernando, California.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Henry, and Arthur, and one sister, Mrs. Stella Grenko. For years, Mr. Ranes worked in the coal mines, and later operated
a filling station until his retirement.
Funeral arrangements are pending, and will be announced later from the Johnson Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Oscar L.(Dick) Ranes will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m., from the Johnson Funeral Home. Rev. Ora Reep will officiate, and burial will be in the Oakland cemetery. (from Iowegian, Sept. 26, 1956)
