Maria Catherine was known as Mariah in her youth, which is the olde English pronunciation of Maria. She became known as 'Marie' later in life, and occasionally, 'Katie', which was a nickname for Catherine. A grandaughter was likely named after her, with first/middle names reversed, Katherine Marie, daughter of Della.

The below obituary was mostly excerpted from the Centerville Daily Iowegian, Nov. 30, 1951, with my corrections/additions in [ brackets ].

MARIE RANES, 91, passed away Friday morning at 5:40 a.m. Nov.30, 1951 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clyde McGee, who lives northeast of Centerville. Mrs. Ranes traveled from Columbus, Ohio, in a covered wagon at the age of three [with her family which included mother Harriet, stepfather James Fulton, and their 'blended' family of children]. The wagon was pulled by oxen. When [they] arrived in Putnam County, Mo., they decided to settle. She was married on [Christmas Day] at the age of 16 years to J. W. Ranes [at Unionville, Putnam, Mo]. In 1903, they moved to Appanoose County, [Iowa] where she has lived [almost exclusively] since that time. [She called Centerville her home.]

[[ Marriage to Jack ended by 1910 and she moved due west, across the border into Nebraska, where she lived a short time, met and married husband Ernest Coon who died in 1927. After 6 years widowhood, she married a widower, Lewis K. Richardson of Kansas. He died about a year later leaving her widowed again. In 1935, she resumed the name of Mrs. John William Ranes. J.W. had become a widower from his second marriage.

To the end of her rich, full life of 91 years, her chief delight was in her family, neighbors and friends.]]

Mrs. Ranes had 13 children; Albert, William, Oscar, Mrs. Robert Henderson, Mrs. Nettie McGee, and Mrs. Edith McIntosh, all of Centerville. Mrs. Jo Anna Hamilton, of Des Moines, Arthur, of Moulton, and five deceased, two in infancy and three, Stella, Henry and Charlie, in recent years. Also surviving are
[ 45 grand, 61 great grand, and 7 great-great grand children. She lived to see a fifth royal generation. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Everett Stufflebeem on December 3, 1951 at the Miller-Wehrle Funeral Home. ]
