Rachel married James Calvin Minteer on 13 Mar 1856. James was living with his Uncle Joseph in 1855 and Rachel was living with her cousin, Sarah. They fell in love and were married thus making a double relationship in these families.

They had nine children they named: Eliza Milzena, William Alexander, Nancy Delila, James Addison, Ella Jane, Mary Edith, Margaret Euphemia, John Roland and Winona Minteer.

Mrs Rachel E Minteer died yesterday at 3 PM at her home on Central Ave in Chicora. She was 80 years, 5 months and 2 days of age. Mrs Minteer had made her home in Chicora for the past 21 years. She was the widow of J C Minteer, who preceded her in death 16 years ago. Mrs Minteer was a member of the English Lutheran church of Chicora.

She is survived by two sons, William A and John R of Chicora; 4 daughters, Mrs M B Hutchison of Bartlesville, OK, Mrs F E Clayton, of Vela, OR; Mrs C P Balsiger of Oil City and Fay at home. Twenty grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs D C Miller of Unionville, survive.
