William was the 9th child of ten born to his parents William Hutchison and Margaret Moorhead from Franklin Co., PA. At the time of his parents birth this was Cumberland County.

William first married Elizabeth C. Larimer on 15 Dec 1831. They had 6 children they named: Amelia, Thomas Alexander, William "George", Rachel Ellen, Delilah and John Moorhead Hutchison.

After Elizabeth died in 1851 he married her sister Eleanor "Ellen" M Larimer on 17 Jan 1853. They had 6 children they named: Joseph McCune, Isiah "Zade", David Shirey, Margaret "Elizabeth", Annie Amelia and James Sanford Hutchison.

After Ellen died in 1867 he married Jemima Adams on 20 Feb 1868. There are no records of children from this union.

William is buried with his first two wives who were sisters. His 3rd wife, Jemima, rests in another cemetery.

Most genealogy records suggest he was born on 12 Jan 1812 but his gravestone suggests otherwise.
