W. Leroy Call, 59, prominent Afton businessman, civic leader and church worker, died of a heart ailment Thursday at the Star Valley LDS Hospital. Mr Call suffered a coronary occlusion six years ago in February. Last Friday morning he was taken to the hospital with another attack and was in serious condition until his passing.
Funeral services have been announced for Monday Apr 9 at 1 p.m. in the Afton Second-Third Chapel by Bishop J. Wilford Moser.
Hundred of friends and relatives paid their last respects to W. Leroy Call 59, at impressive funeral services Monday April 9, in the Afton Second-Third Ward Chapel under the direction of the Second Ward bishopric with Counselor Ivan L. Roberts conducting. Mr Call died of a heart ailment Thursday, April 4 at the Star Valley LDS Hospital in Afton. He had suffered a coronary occlusion about six years. earlier.
High tributes were pail to him by the speakers, Mrs Milford I Gardner, Bp, Harold R. Papworth, Pres. A. Dixon Burton and Bp. J. Wilford Moser. The chapel was filled and overflowing.

Walter Leroy Call was born May 9, 1896 at Afton, Wyoming, the son of A.V.Call and Lucy King Call. His father was one of the early pioneers of Star Valley, having come here from Utah with his posterity after the doctrine of plural marriage, which he had embraced upon the suggestion of church authorities became illegal in Utah.
As a member of a large family, he became accustomed to sharing things with others. As a youth, he was taught by his father and brothers the craft of carpentry and became a builder, as did many other member of his family. He continued this trade much of his life and put it to good use when employed at other jobs.
He received his schooling in Star Valley.
During World War I he was a volunteer worker in a shipbuilding company at Portland Oregon.
On June 8, 1917 he married Miriam Clementine Tolman in the Salt Lake Temple. He built a home (the one presently lived in by Mrs Susie M. Toland) and two children, Ronald and Beth were born to this union.
In 1921 he became postmaster of the Afton post office and held this position until 1934. He then moved to a farm north of Afton and built a new home and went to work for the U.S. Forest Service as a foreman for Civilian Conservation Corps workers while doing limited farmig also.
Shortly thereafter, on June 25, 1937 his wife died.
He married Wanda Haderlie Call on Sept. 30, 1937 in the Logan Temple. Two children were born to this union, Gerald W. Call, who is now 16 years old and Curt H. Call now 9.
When World War II broke out in 1941, he went to work in defense and war production in the Ogden area and followed this work until 1948. At this time he moved back to Afton where he became manager of the Star Valley Power and Light Company until it was dissolved in 1953, after being purchased by Lower Valley Power & Light Inc. since that time he has been engaged in private business and last summer completed building a new modern Texaco Service station in Afton. He worked in the church all of his life holding many positions, no matter where he lived. He was ward clerk in the Afton South Ward for many years and served as stake MIA secretary. He also served as president of his elders quorum. A great lover of the outdoors, he was a popular scoutmaster in the South Ward for many years and he took the scouts on many outdoor hikes, horseback riding and camping trips. He was always active in scouting and was a district executive both in Star Valley and Kaysville, Utah. In recent years he helped to supervise scout fund drives in the valley.
While working for the Forest Service he was superintendent of the Sunday School at Jackson Wyo. Later when he moved to Ogden he was a stake missionary and also served as president of the Ben Lomond Stake Mission. He also worked as a Sunday School teacher in Ogden.
All his life he was an active ward teacher wherever he resided. Since moving back to Afton he has served as ward teaching supervisor and was secretary of his seventies q2uorum in 1948. He held the office of High Priest and was a teacher in the High Priests quorum at the time of his death.
Leroy was a public spirited citizen and worked in many civic organizations. He served terms as president and secretary of the star Valley Commercial Club, predecessor of the chamber of commerce. Active politically he served many years as county chairman of the Republican Party in Lincoln County. He served one term as trustee on the school board of School District No. 19. In later years he has been a member of the Afton Lions Club and the chamber of commerce.
He was secretary for one year for the Afton Businessmen's Association.
Prior to his death he had the great privilege of visiting the Los Angeles Temple and serving as a guide together with his son Ronald. Temple work was a reality and a special thrill for him.
He is survived by his widow Wanda Haderlie Call; the following sons and daughters: Ronald L. Call Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs Howard (Beth) Humphrey Jackson Wyo.; Mrs Reed H. Gardner (a stepdaughter); Gerald W. Call and Curt H. Call Afton; Surviving brothers and sisters are Mrs A.E. (Stella) Kennington, Afton; Christian J. Call, Salt Lake City; Mrs Osborne (Mary) Low South Gate Calif.; Dr Fred W. Call, Idaho Falls, Dr George A. Call Torrington Wyo,; and Edgar A. Call Los Angeles, Calif. Nine grandchildren also survive him.
