Grayson Howard Valentine was born June 18, 1850, in Creagerstown, Frederick County, Maryland, the son of William and Lydia Mehring Valentine. On November 7, 1872, in Frederick County, he married Alice Amanda Eiler, daughter of Josiah and Catharine Elizabeth Snook Eiler. Grayson and Alice were the parents of 5 children: Charles Howard, Maggie Cordelia, Ivy Alice, Ira Josiah and Edith Catherine Valentine. Grayson passed away on November 12, 1918, in Rocky Ridge, Frederick County, and was buried on the 15th in Mt. Tabor Church Cemetery there.

"Grayson H. Valentine, 22, of Frederick County, single, farmer, to Alice Amanda Eyler, 19, of Frederick County, single. Married November 7, 1872, in Frederick County, by Jacob Summers."

Obituary for Grayson Howard Valentine from the Frederick Post of Thursday Morning, November 14, 1918:

"Grayson H. Valentine, aged 68 years, three months and 27 days, died Tuesday night at 11:50 at his home at Rocky Ridge, of anaemia. He is survived by his widow and the following children: Charles H. Valentine, near Motter's Station; Mrs. Della M. Boone, Key Mar; Ira J. Valentine, Ellicott City; Mrs. Edith C. Keilholtz, near Motter's Station. One brother, Wesley Valentine, of Rocky Ridge, also survives. The funeral will take place on Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, with services in the Lutheran Church at Rocky Ridge, conducted by Rev. O. E. Ibach. Interment in the cemetery adjoining. Wilhide and Creager, of Thurmont, are the funeral directors."
