William Valentine was born August 9, 1802, in the Creagerstown District of Frederick County, Maryland, the 10th child of Jacob and Anna Mary Freeze Valentine. He was married twice. He married on September 3, 1827, in Frederick County, to Mary Magdalena Mehring, daughter of Frederick and Magdalena Garner Mehring. They were the parents of one son: James Edward Valentine. Mary Magdalena passed away in 1829, apparently from the effects of childbirth. On December 8, 1830, in Frederick County, William married 2nd to Lydia Mehring, sister of his first wife. They were the parents of 7 children: Elias Frederick, Minerva Ann, Sylvester, William Albert, Lewis Henry, Sarah Jane and Grayson Howard Valentine. William passed away on December 9, 1877, in Rocky Ridge, Frederick County, and was buried in Mt. Tabor Church there.

William is the grandson of Immigrant Johan George Valentine (1715- Dec 1783) and Anna Margaretha Mathias Valentine (1734-1777).

From Williams' History of Frederick County, Maryland, 1910:

"William Valentine, son of Jacob and Anna Mary Freeze Valentine, was born August 9, 1802 and died December 9, 1877. He is interred at Rocky Ridge Mt. Tabor Church Cemetery. He became the purchaser of the family home on which he spent the better part of his life making his home there until a few years before his death. He was an extensive landowner and well known throughout Frederick and Carroll Counties, having farms in both places. He was a prominent citizen in his day. Mr. Valentine was twice married. His first wife was a Miss Mehring, by whom he had one son, James, now deceased. Mr. Valentine was married secondly to Lydia Mehring, a sister of his first wife. They were the parents of these children: Elias F.; Minerva D., the wife of John Anders, a farmer of Creagerstown District; Sylvester, a retired agriculturist of Creagerstown District; Lewis, deceased; Albert, deceased; Sarah, the wife of George Albaugh; and G. H., a merchant at Rocky Ridge."
