From the Frederick Daily News of September 26, 1893:

"The Circuit Court. Court convened this morning with a full bench, and is now engaged with the suit of Hezekiah Fox, Double Pipe Creek, Carroll County, versus W. A. Valentine, of this county, for breach of contract. The amount involved is about $2,500. It appears that in October, 1892, the farm of Newton C. Groff, in Middleburg District, Carroll County, was sold under a mortgage, and was purchased by Mr. W. A. Valentine. Mr. Fox alleges that he was to be a joint purchaser with Valentine, not caring to bid on the farm himself, and that afterwards, the one half interest in the farm was deeded by Valentine to his son-in-law, Harvey Miller, of Double Pipe Creek. He instituted the suit against Valentine for breach of contract for non-compliance with the understanding that he was to be a joint purchaser. Messrs. W. P. Maulsby, of this city; D. N. Henning and E. O. Weant, Westminster, are counsel for the plaintiff; Messrs. J. E. R. Wood and J. C. Motter are counsel for the defendant. It is being tried before a jury."
