Lewis Henry Valentine was born May 24, 1838, in Creagerstown, Frederick County, Maryland, the son of William and Lydia Mehring Valentine. On February 18, 1861, in Frederick County, Maryland, he married Susan Albaugh, daughter of John and Elizabeth Albaugh. They were the parents of 6 children: John W. Elmer, Mary E., Edward Luther, Elizabeth Arabel, Alva Clayton and Sudie May Valentine. Susan passed away in 1876, and Lewis married 2nd to Louisa Mae Sickel, with whom he had a daughter: Elsie Valentine. Lewis passed away on January 31, 1907, in Baltimore, Maryland, and was buried on February 5th in Mt. Tabor Church Cemetery, Rocky Ridge, Frederick County, Maryland.

"ROCKY RIDGE. Mr. Grayson Valentine was called to the bedside of his brother, Mr. Lewis Valentine, on Sunday. Mr. Valentine is very ill."


Obituary for Lewis Henry Valentine from the Frederick Daily News of Wednesday, February 6, 1907:

"Mr. Lewis H. Valentine, aged 68 years, 8 months and 7 days, died at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. J. J. Paston, 423, North Broadway, Baltimore, on last Friday, of organic heart disease. He was well-known in this county and is survived by two sons and two daughters. He is also survived by three brothers, Messrs. Sylvester, Elias and Grayson Valentine, of Rocky Ridge. His remains were taken to Rocky Ridge yesterday, where services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Bregenzer, of Union Bridge, and interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church. M. L. Creeger, of Thurmont, was the funeral director."
