Charles Howard Valentine was born September 16, 1872, in Rocky Ridge, Frederick County, Maryland, the son of Grayson Howard and Alice Amanda Eiler Valentine. On December 24, 1895, in Thurmont, Frederick County, he married Lillie May Fogle, daughter of John and Eliza Ann Eyler Fogle. They were the parents of two children, both of whom died in infancy: Oscar Norris and Mazie A. Valentine. Charles passed away on April 8, 1940, in Rocky Ridge, and was buried on the 10th in Mt. Tabor Church Cemetery there.

"Charles Howard Valentine, 22, of near Rocky Ridge, bachelor, and Lillie May Fogle, 23, of Woodsboro, maid. Married December 24, 1895, at the Lutheran Parsonage in Thurmont, by John H. Barb. License dated December 18, 1895."


From the WWI Draft Registration Card, September 12, 1918: Charles Howard Valentine, 45, of R.D. 2, Emmitsburg, Frederick County, Maryland, was born September 16, 1872. He was a farmer, "farming on shares" near Emmitsburg, Frederick County, Maryland. His nearest relative was Mrs. Lillie Valentine. He was short in height, stout build, with blue eyes and brown hair.


Obituary for Charles Howard Valentine from the Frederick Post of Tuesday, April 9, 1940:

"Charley H. Valentine died Monday at 3 a.m., at the home of his sister, Mrs. Harrison Keilholtz, Rocky Ridge, aged 67 years, 6 months and 22 days. For the past three years, Mr. Valentine made his home with a sister, Mrs. Lily Fogle, Johnsville, and had arrived at Mrs. Keilholtz's one week ago. He died suddenly of a heart ailment. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Keilholtz and Mrs. Fogle; one brother, Ira J. Valentine, Philadelphia, Pa. He was a son of the late Grayson H. and Alice A. Valentine of Rocky Ridge. He was a member of the Lutheran church at Rocky Ridge. Body is at the funeral home in Thurmont and will be taken to the home of Mrs. Keilholtz on Tuesday at two o'clock. Funeral on Wednesday with services at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, Rocky Ridge, at 10:30 a.m. Interment in cemetery adjoining. M. L. Creager and Son, funeral directors."
