Mrs. Dot Lacey

Death came to Mrs. Dorothy Overby Lacey Wednesday at Palmyra Park Hospital in Albany where she had been a patient for 8 weeks.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 22, at 5 p.m. at the West Side Baptist Church where she was a member. Officiating were the Rev. Eddie Morgan, the Rev. Emmett McDuffey, and the Rev. Hulet Adams.

Emory Whittle was in charge of music for the service which the pallbearers where Charlie Massey, Nathaniel Adams, Harold Geoghogan, Leroy Taylor, and Harold Sumner. Burial was at Pleasant Hill at Rebecca.

Mrs. Lacey the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Overby of Ashburn, had enjoyed good health until a sudden illness made exploratory surgery necessary, uncovering an inoperative brain tumor. She had been in critical condition, and her family had been at her bedside.

Born November 7, 1934, Mrs. Lacey was 37 years old and had been a life-time resident of Turner County. She had been a life-time resident of Turner County. Employed as a waitress at the Ashburn Motor Inn Restaurant and other restaurants here, she had made friends from all walks of life who enjoyed her friendly and accommodating interest. Always cheerful, she greeted people with a smile and a genuine concern for their comfort and welfare, and one of her great pleasures was sharing her happy moments with others. She was especially interested in young people and was an avid fan of basketball and football as the mother of three sons, all of them attending high school here.

Surviving with her husband, Delmer Lacey, are her sons, David Adams, W. C. Adams, and Billy Adams, and her parents Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Overby; her brothers Charles Overby of Norcross, H. D. Overby of Charleston, South Carolina, Clarence Overby of Irvin, Pennsylvania, C. L. Overby of Atlanta, Jonny Overby of Jonesboro, and Earl Overby of Homestead, Florida; her sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Massey of Ashburn, Mrs. Izola Skipper and Mrs. Helen Burdge of Macon.

Dorothy Mae "Dot" Overby Lacey was born November 7, 1934 in Rebecca, Georgia. Her parents were Charles Henry Overby and Beatrice Lula Mangrum Overby. She had eight siblings: Billy Clyde Mangrum (who is Missing In Action from Korean War and declared dead in 1953), Izola Overby Skipper, Henry Delano "Buddy" Overby, Clarence Wyman Overby, Clinton Lee "Zeke" Overby, John "Johnny" Kenneth Overby, and Earl Franklin Overby.

She was married in Turner County to Harmon C. Adams and had 3 boys: David Adams, Walter Charles (W.C.) "Doc" Adams and Billy Dwayne Adams. She later married James Delmer Lacey.

She was a homemaker and close to her family. Billy was still in high school and went to live with his grandmother, Dot's mother, Beatrice Overby, when Dorothy died.

She died at the age of 37 with brain cancer, pulmonary infection, pulmonary emboli after being treated in Palmyra Park Hospital Albany, Dougherty County, Georgia for eight weeks. She was residing in Turner County prior to her death and had been transferred to the hospital in Dougherty County, Georgia due to her illness.

Her influence and her deeds will linger as sacred memories in the minds of all who have known her.
