John Kenneth Overby died at the age of 62 at his residence in Griffin due to cardiac arrest. He had history of heart ailments. He was the son of the late Charles Henry Overby and Beatrice Mangum Overby of Georgia. He had eight siblings: Billy Mangum (1930-1950 MIA Korean War, Army), Izola Overby Skipper (1932-2011), Dorothy Mae Overby Lacey (1934-1972) Henry Delano Overby (living in Winonna, Missouri), Clarence Wyman Overby (living in Verbena, Alabama), Clinton Lee "Zeke" Overby (1941-2013), Joyce Helen Overby (Living in Juliette, Georgia), and Earl Franklin Overby (1949-2002).
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and loving father to two daughters: Carol Ann and Marcy. He had lived for awhile in Ashburn, Georgia before moving to Griffin. He was a retired truck driver. He leaves behind a widow Donna Barlow. He was cremated by the Jackson Hill Crematory, 38 Jackson Street, Newnan, Georgia 30263 on December 15, 2009.
