Mr. Overby died Friday, June 22, 2007 in Tift Regional Hospital of cardiopulmonary arrest, myocardial infarction, and pneumonia. He also had a history of diabetes mellitus and hypertension.
A native of Gwinnett County, he was retired from the City of Ashburn and was a member of High Hill Baptist Church.
He was born on February 10, 1930 to Charles Henry Overby and Ila B. Kimbro. Mrs. Kimbro died at the age of 22 years old only 4 days after delivery of Charles David due to childbirth complications. His father took his family to live with his sister, Addie Velma Overby Young, as documented by the 1930 Federal Census. He had another sister, Homer Geneva Overby who died at the age of 5 in 1933 in Turner County, Georgia. This left the grieving father, Charles Henry, to take his two surviving young children (Charles David and Evelyn Addie) to Rebecca, Turner County, Georgia to live near his own father who had moved there temporarily. It is here that he met Beatrice Mangum and married her on February 24, 1934, and Beatrice adopted Charles David and his sister Evelyn Addie Overby.
Survivors include his wife, Annette J. Overby of Ashburn; his mother, Beatrice Overby of Macon; three sons, Chuck Kimbro of Stone Mountain, Terry Kimbro of Marietta and Randy Overby of Ashburn; three daughters, Beverly Tomkins of Acworth, Sandra Brunner of Forsyth and Melissa Machinshok of Ashburn; four brothers, Henry "Buddy" Overby of Missouri, Clarence Overby of Verbina, Ala., C.L. Overby of Atlanta and Johnny Overby of Macon; two sisters, Helen Burdge and Izola Skipper, both of Macon; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father Charles Henry Overby, brothers Billy Clyde Mangum, and Earl Franklin Overby, and sisters: Dorothy Mae Overby Lacey and Evelyn Addie Overby.
