Troy Purdue Lail, 55, of Route One, Conover, died this morning in an area hospital after a lingering illness.
He was born in Alexander County, a son of Julius S. Lail and the late Bessie Bolick Lail. He was married to the former Earline Bentley, who survives. A World War Two veteran, he was a former employ of Hickory Chair Company.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Margaret) Johnson and Miss Donna Lail, both of the home; four sons, Melvin Lail of Newton, Gene Lail of Memphis, Tenn., Lonnie Lail of Conover, and Ricky Lail of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Rozelle) White of Taylorsville, Mrs. Bill (Maybelle) Lane of Hickory, and Mrs. Maudie Myers of Granite Falls; five brothers, Gaither Lail of Taylorsville, Dexter Lail, Frank Lail and Tim Lail, all of Granite Falls, and Dock Lail of Connelly Springs; and five grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.

Troy Pardue Lail, 55, of Route One, Conover, died Thursday in an area hospital after a lingering illness.
He was born Sept. 18, 1915 in Alexander County to the late Bessie Bolick Lail and Julius S. Lail, who survives. He was married to Earline Bentley Lail, who survives. He was an employ of Hickory Chair Company and a member of Springs Road Baptist Church. He was also a veteran of World War Two.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at two o'clock at Springs Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Wray Barrett officiating. The body will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour.
Burial will be in Isaac Creek Church of God cemetery in Alexander County.
Other Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Margaret) Johnson and Miss Donna Lail, both of the home; four sons, Ricky Lail of the home, Melvin (Sonny) Lail of Newton, Gene Lail of Memphis, Tenn., and Lonnie Lail of Conover; three sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Rozelle) White of Taylorsville, Mrs. Bill (Maybelle) Lane of Hickory, and Mrs. Maudie Myers of Granite Falls; five brothers, Gaither Lail of Taylorsville, Dexter Lail, Frank Lail, and Tim Lail, all of Granite Falls, and Dock Lail of Connelly Springs; and five grandchildren.
The body was taken to the residence this afternoon at five o'clock from Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
