Dexter David Lail, 87, of Icard Ridge Road in Granite Falls, died July 18, 2000, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Born June 28, 1913, in Alexander County, he was a son of the late Julius and Bessie Bolick Lail.
A member of Bethlehem Church of God, he was owner and operator of Lail's Garage.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Coodie Benfield Lail; and four brothers, Fred Lail, Troy Lail, Dock Lail and Frank Lail.
Survivors include four sons and three daughters-in-law, Sam and Shirley Lail, Clifford and Gloria Lail, David Lail and Harold and Dorothy Lail of Claremont; three daughters and a son-in-law, Mary and Perry Sayles and Joyce Ann Lail of Bethlehem and Helen Terry of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two brothers, Gaither Lail of Hickory and Timothy Lail of Bethlehem; three sisters, Rosella White and Maudie Myers of Bethlehem and Maybelle Lane of Hickory; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Howard Smith at 2 p.m. Thursday at his church.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
The family will be at Bass-Smith Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 tonight.
