OBITUARY

Levi J. Whitten, son of Jacob and Ann Whitten, was born February 22, 1881, at Otoe, Nebraska and departed this life at his home in Alma, Nebraska on February 20, 1950, at the age of 68 years, 11 months and28 days.
From Otoe, Nebraska, he moved to Phillips County, Kansas, near Phillipsburg, where he engaged in farming. On December 21, 1904, he was united in marriage to Ada Nancy Baker at Glade, Kansas. To this union four children were born.
In the year 1923, he and his family retired from the farm and moved to Alma, Nebraska, where he engaged himself in various occupations until ill health forced his retiremnent.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Ada Nancy Whitten; one daughter, Mrs. Burdell Uplinger of Alma, Nebraska; three sons, George Whitten of Lapeer, Michigan, Waldo Whitten of Ellsworth, Kansas and Neal Whitten of Clay Center, Nebraska; also two brothers, Ira and Merritt Whitten of Phillipsburg, Kansas; three sisters, Ida Carper and Burdell Mitchell of Lincoln, Nebraska and Rachel Gipe of Guide Rock, Nebraska; eight grandchildren, other relatives and a multitude of friends.
Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church in this city, Wednesday afternoon, February 22, with the Rev. R.H. Chenoweth, pastor of the church officiating. Burial was made in the Alma cemetery.
