Jacob French Whitten was born in Maine, September6, 1835. He moved with his parents to Iowa when six years of age and from there to Nebraska in 1854.
He was married to Cynthia Ann Dodd at Nebraska City, December 10, 1863. To this union were born 4 sons and 6 daughters, all living except Clara Abker, who passed away when a young woman.
He died at the home of his son, Ira, February 21, 1911 at the age of 75.
Funeral services were conducted at the home of Ira Whitten and he was laid to rest in the Iowa Union Cemetery, February 23,1911.
Mr. Whitten came to Phillips County in 1893, where he has spent the last years of his life. Those of the family who attended the funeral were E.C. Whitten and family of Eudora, Kansas, the Riley Reeder family, E.M. Whitten and family of Phillipsburg, Mr.& Mrs. Sherman Doman of Lincoln, Nebraska, Mr.& Mrs. W.E. Dagget of Des Moines, Iowa, Mr. & Mrs Albert Mitchell and family of Burchard, Nebraska, Mrs. Rachel Cope of Alma, Nebraska, Mr.& Mrs. Levi Whitten and family of Glade, Kansas, the Ira Whitten and family and Miss Bernice Abker of Berlin, Nebraska.
