Elisha Merritt Whitten, son of Jacob and Ann Whitten, was born January 16,1874 in Otoe County, Nebraska and departed this life at the St. Mary's Hospital in Racine, Wisconsin on March 30, 1968 at the age of 94 years, 2 months and 14 days.
He was united in marriage to Edith Edna Howe in 1900 and to this union children Harold and Ida were born.
As a young man he moved to a farm eight miles north of Phillipsburg. There, he and his family lived for many years. Later the family moved to Phillipsburg. While living in Phillipsburg, he worked for the Smith Hardware and Lumber Company. He and his son lived together following the death of his wife in 1942 and when Harold passed away in 1962, he moved to Racine, Wisconsin to be with his daughter, Ida.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his daughter, Ida; a sister, Mrs. Burdell Mitchell; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, April 3rd, in Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Harold Nelson officiating.
Hymns were sung by Mrs. Virgil Nelson accompanied by Mrs. Jack Witmer.
Casket bearers were Dale Burton, Frank Hodge, Lee Matteson, Sid Robinson, Chester Hodge and Wayne Whitney.
Interment was in Fairview Cemetery.
