Ella Madalene Farrell was born on 11 Feb 1883 in Gilmer County, West Virginia. Although, one inconsistency exists with a birth record listing 21 Feb 1884 with the same parent's name and birth location, however I assess this is an anomaly. All other sources and evidence indicate 11 Feb 1883. Based on the preponderance of evidence, I am assessing 11 Feb 1883 as the correct information until proven otherwise. Her parents were Peter Farrell and Anna Cuff, although their spelling is somewhat inconsistent among sources throughout the years which I attribute to the difficulty in pronouncing and spelling their names. It appears she may have had 8 siblings; Margaret A (m. Craft), Mary C (m. Fitzpatrick), Elizabeth Beatrice (m. Rush), Thomas Vincent, John, Patrick Francis, Anna Gertrude (m. McCudden), and Peter Jr.

According to early census records, she lived with her parents and siblings in Glenville District in Gilmer County, West Virginia. According to the 1900 United States Federal Census taken on 5 Jun 1900, they were living on the family farm in Glenville District, Gilmer County, West Virginia. At the time, Ella was 17 years old and lived with her now widowed father Peter Farrell (65) and her 4 other siblings; John (25), Patrick (23), Anna (19), and Peter Jr (14), her sister Maggie A Kraft (33), brother-in-law Samuel Craft (37) and her 3 nephews Joseph P (6), Leo V (4), and Thomas C (2) also lived with them on their family farm. After the death of her father in 1909, it appears they inherited the family farm. According to the 1910 United States Federal Census taken on 20 Apr 1910, they were living in Glenville District, Gilmer County, West Virginia. At the time, Ella was 26 years old and lived with her brothers John Farrell (35) and Peter Farrell (24) and her sister Anna Gertrude Farrell (28). In addition, her nephew Thomas Craft (11) and niece Mary E Craft (9) also lived with them. According to the 1920 United States Federal Census taken on 21 Jan 1920, they were still on the family farm in the Glenville District, Gilmer County, West Virginia. At the time, Ella was 37 years old and living with her 2 brothers; John (43), and Peter (34).

At the age of 39, Ella and 46-year-old James Patrick Bohan applied for a marriage license on 27 Oct 1922 in Lewis County, West Virginia. They were married by Father Thomas A Quirk on 30 Oct 1922 in Saint Bridget's Catholic Church in Weston, Lewis County, West Virginia. It does not appear they ever had children. After her marriage in 1922, it appears the moved to Lewis County, West Virginia. According to city directories, by 1926, Ella and James was living at 230 Bennett Ave in Weston, Lewis County, West Virginia. According to the 1930 United States Federal Census taken on 2 Apr 1930, they lived at 230 Bennett Avenue in Weston, Court House District, in Lewis County, West Virginia. At the time, Ella was 45 years old and lived with her spouse James P Bohan (52). After the death of her husband in 1935, it appears she stayed at this residence. According to the 1950 United States Federal Census taken on 20 Apr 1950, she lived at 230 Bennett Avenue in Weston, Court House District, in Lewis County, West Virginia. At the time, Ella Bohan was 67 years old and lived with her brother Peter Ferrell (64). It appears she lived there until her death in 1956.

Ella passed away from a cerebral thrombosis (blot clot in brain) at the age of 73 at 11:30 on 18 Nov 1956 at the Weston City Hospital in Weston, Lewis County, West Virginia. She fell and broke her hip a few hours prior to her death and may have been a contributing factor. She was laid to rest on 21 Nov 1956 in Saint Bernard's Cemetery in Weston, Lewis County, West Virginia.
