BIOGRAPHY UPDATED on 12 May 23

Patrick Francis Farrell was born on 9 Sep 1877 in Rocky Fork, Gilmer County, West Virginia. His parents were Peter Farrell and Anna Cuff, although their spelling is somewhat inconsistent among sources throughout the years which I attribute to the difficulty in pronouncing and spelling their names. It appears he may have had 8 siblings; Margaret A (m. Craft), Mary C (m. Fitzpatrick), Elizabeth Beatrice (m. Rush), Thomas Vincent, John, Anna Gertrude (m. McCudden), Ella Madalene (m. Bohan) and Peter Jr. According to WWII draft registration records, he was 6'1" and weighed 153 pounds. He had blue eyes and blonde hair. His highest level of education was the 8th grade. He had a scar above his left eye.

According to early census records, he lived with his parents and siblings in Glenville District in Gilmer County, West Virginia. 1880 United States Federal Census taken on 23-24 Jun 1880 in Glenville District, Gilmer County, West Virginia. At the time, Patrick was 2 years old and lived with his parents Peter Farrell (43) and Ann (33) and his 5 siblings; Margaret (12), Mary (10), Elizabeth (8), Thomas (6), and John (4). In addition, his maternal grandfather Thomas Cuff (60) also lived with them. According to the 1900 United States Federal Census taken on 5 Jun 1900, they were still living on the family farm in Glenville District, Gilmer County, West Virginia. At the time, Patrick was 23 years old and lived with his now widowed father Peter Farrell (65) and his 4 siblings; John (25), Gertrude (19), Ella (17), and Peter Jr (14). In addition, his sister Maggie A Kraft (33), his brother-in-law Samuel Craft (37) and his 3 nephews; Joseph P (6), Leo V (4), and Thomas C (2) also lived with them on their family farm. After the death of his father in 1909, it is unclear where he lived until his marriage in 1925, but presumably it was in Lewis County.

At the age of 47, Patrick and 44-year-old Mary Ann Murphy applied for a marriage license on 15 May 1925 in Lewis County, West Virginia. They were married by Father Thomas A Quirk on 18 May 1925 in Saint Michael's Church in Braxton County, West Virginia. It appears they never had any children. According to the 1930 United States Federal Census taken on 10 Apr 1930, they owned a house at 72 Piedmont Street in Clendenin, Big Sandy District in Kanawha County, West Virginia. At the time, Patrick Farrell was 45 years old and lived with his spouse Mary (39). According to the 1940 United States Federal Census taken on 4 Apr 1940, they were still living in Clendenin, Big Sandy District, in Kanawha, West Virginia. At the time, Patrick F. Farrell was 63 years old and lived with his spouse Mary (58). According to the 1950 United States Federal Census taken on 8 Apr 1950 they lived at 65 Piedmont Street in Clendenin, Kanawha, West Virginia, USA. At the time, Patrick F Farrell was 72 years old and lived with his spouse Mary Ann (69). At some point, he moved into Maple Convalescent Home in Weston, West Virginia. It appears he lived there until his death in 1961. In his early years, he was a farmer on his family's farm. By 1930, he was listed as a telephone Operator for the United Fuel and Gas Company. He may have worked for them for over 15 years and retired from that company.

Patrick passed away from a Coronary Occlusion at the age of 84 at 8:10 AM on 7 Mar 1962 at the Maples Convalescent Home in Weston, Lewis County, West Virginia. He was laid to rest on 10 Mar 1962 in Saint Bridget's Church Cemetery in Weston, Lewis County, West Virginia.
