BIOGRAPHY updated on 11 May 23

Elizabeth Beatrice Farrell was probably born on 28 May 1872 in Gilmer County, West Virginia. However, some inconsistencies exist with her birthdate and birth location across a few known records. Her death certificate lists 28 Jan as her birth date, although, cemetery records may indicate 28 May. In addition, the 1900 Census record indicates a May birth month. Based on several credible, but conflicting records, I cannot state with 100% certainty her exact birth date. However, based on the preponderance of evidence, I am assessing 28 May as the correct information until other records can be obtained. Her parents were Peter Farrell and Anna Cuff, although the spelling is somewhat inconsistent among sources throughout the years which I attribute to the difficulty in pronouncing and spelling their names. It appears she may have had 8 siblings; Margaret A (m. Craft), Mary C (m. Fitzpatrick), Thomas Vincent, John, Patrick Francis, Anna Gertrude (m. McCudden), Ella Madalene (m. Bohan) and Peter Jr. Her highest level of education was the 8th grade

According to early census records, she lived with her parents and siblings in Glenville District in Gilmer County, West Virginia. According to the 1880 United States Federal Census taken on 23-24 Jun 1880, they were still living in Glenville District, Gilmer County, West Virginia. At the time, Elizabeth Farrell was 8 and lived with her parents, Peter Farrell (43) and Ann (33) and her 5 siblings, Margaret (12), Mary (10), Thomas (6), John (4) and Patrick (2). In addition, her maternal grandfather Thomas Cuff (60) also lived with them.

At the age of 20, Elizabeth and 18-year-old Michael A Rush were married by Rev Thomas Quirk on 5 Sep 1892 in Gilmer County, West Virginia. Unfortunately, Michael passed away at the early age 44 from Typhoid Fever in 1907. It does not appear Elizabeth ever remarried. It appears Elizabeth and Michael would eventually have 8 children; Andrew Vincent, Peter Farrell, Anna Cecilia, Abelene Mildred, Helen Anastasia, Gertrude M, Bertha Philomena, and Marie Marguerite.

After her marriage to Michael in 1892, it appears they stayed in the area. According to the 1900 United States Federal Census taken on 22 Jun 1900, they owned a farm in the Salt Lick District of Braxton County, West Virginia. At the Time Elizabeth Rush was 30 years old and lived with her spouse Michael A Rush (36) and their 4 children; Andrew (6), Peter (4), Ann (2), and Abalena (1 mo). Unfortunately, her husband passed away in 1907 and appears they stayed in the area after his death. According to the 1910 United States Federal Census taken on 5 May 1900, she owned a farm in Orlando Village in the Salt Lick District of Braxton County, West Virginia. At the time, Lizzie Rush, now widowed, was 39 years old and lived with her 8 children; Andrew (16), Pete (14), Anna (12), Abaline (10), Helen (8), Gertie (5), Bertha (5), Mary (3). At some point prior to 1920, they decided to move about 65 miles north to Harrison County. According to the 1920 United States Federal Census taken on 16 Jan 1920, they owned a house at 311 Jefferson St in the Clark District of Harrison County, West Virginia. At the time, Elizabeth Rush was 49 years old and lived with her 7 children; Pete F (23), Anna C (21), Abalena M (19), Helen A (17), Gertrude (14), Bertha (14), Marie (12). According to the 1930 United States Federal Census taken around 10 Apr 1930, they were still living at 311 Jefferson St in Clarksburg, Clark District of Harrison County, West Virginia. At the Time, Elizabeth B. Rush was 61 years old and lived with her 7 children; Peter F (32), Ann (30), Abalina (28), Helen (25), Gertrude (23), Bertha (23), Marie (21). According to the 1940 United States Federal Census taken on 10 Apr 1940, they were still at 311 Jefferson St in Clarksburg, Clark District of Harrison County, West Virginia. At the time, Elizabeth B. Rush was 68 years old and lived with her 3 children; Pete F (44), Bertha P (35), and Marie M Bramham (32) and her children; Elizabeth J (5) and Robert E (4). According to the 1950 United States Federal Census taken on 4 Apr 1950, she still owned the home at 311 Jefferson St in Clarksburg, Clark District of Harrison County, West Virginia. At the Time, Elizabeth B. Rush was 77 years old and lived with her 2 children; Peter F (53), and Bertha P Rush (40). She lived at this address until her death in 1970.

Elizabeth passed away at the age of 98 from heart related issues at 2:45 PM on 5 Jul 1970 at her residence in Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia. She was laid to rest on 8 Jul 1970 in Saint Bridget's Church Cemetery in Weston, Lewis County, West Virginia.
