The deceased, whose home address was 10683 Highlands Dr., Tucson, had moved to Chicago from Edwardsville in 1925. He was retired from Illinois Central Railroad at Chicago in 1963 and had made his home in Tucson with his wife, the former Lillian Eads of Glen Carbon, since that time. A general car foreman, he had been an IC employee for 44 years.
Born Oct. 7, 1897 in Phillipsburg, Mo., he was a son of Thomas and Emma Noblett Greear. He was married Jan. 1, 1919 in St. Louis.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Vernon, Smithfield, Tex.; one grandchild; four brothers, Emmett of Omaha, Neb., Elwood of Danville, Edward of Rochester, Minn., and Oren Greear, Forrest Hills, Md.; and three sisters, Mrs. Hazel Dippold, Wood River, Mrs. Tillie Stricklin, St. Louis, and Mrs. Ida Cale, St. Jacob. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, two brothers and two sisters.
The deceased was a member of the First Christian Church, where he had served on the Board of Deacons, and Temperance Lodge 16, AF & AM, both at Vandalia. Other organizations he held membership in are Scottish Rites Consistory, Medina Temple Shriners and Roseland American Legion Post at Chicago.
Officiating at the funeral services will be the Rev. Donald W. Frantz, pastor of the Edwardsville First Christian Church. Burial will be in Glen Carbon Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday. Masonic services will be held there at 7 o'clock that evening.
