Oren Jesse Greear was the 8th of 15 children born to Thomas W. and Emma (Noblitt) Greear. He was born in rural Madison County, Illinois south of Staunton. The family lived in Laclede County, Missouri for several years but then returned to Madison County in 1904 and lived in Edwardsville.

Oren served in World War I from September 19, 1917 to January 22, 1919. He was very active in the V.F.W. in Edwardsville.

Oren J. Greear - Oren Jessie Greear, 85, died Thursday, July 26, at Fort Howard VA Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Staunton, Ill., he was a long time resident of Forest Hill. Mr. Greear served in the Army during World War I.

He is survived by his wife, Iva Greear; seven daughters, Lorraine Kellar of Elk River, Min., Virginia Ainsworth at Shelbyville, Tenn., Frances Thiel of New Carlisle, Ohio, Emma Noble of Kettering, Ohio, Helen Grant, Betty Glenn both of Fallston and Dorothy Corder of Aberdeen; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 28, at 11 a.m. from the Foster Funeral Home, Bel Air with Rev. Harold Wade officiating.

Interment was in Bel Air Memorial Gardens. Service as pallbearers were Bill Noble, Bill Glenn, Henry Thiel, Roy Black, John Corder and Bill Grant.
