Hazel Greear was the youngest of 15 children born to Thomas W. and Emma (Noblitt) Greear. She grew up in Edwardsville, Illinois. Hazel married George Michael Dippel in Edwardsville in 1924. They were the parents of three children: Lois born in 1929, Richard Leroy born in 1931, and Merle Eugene Greear born in 1932.

George Dippel died on 14 Jun 1964 and is buried in Roselawn Cemetery, Bethalto, IL. After his death, Hazel married James Wilford Cox, Jr.

The Daily Oklahoman of Oklahoma City carried the following information: Mrs. Hazel Cox - Services for Mrs. Hazel Berniece Cox, 64, of 521 SW 32, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Capitol Hill Funeral Home, with burial in City of Moore Cemetery. She died Saturday at St. Anthony Hospital.

Mrs. Cox was born in Edwardsville, Ill., and moved to Oklahoma City in 1971 from Wood River, Ill. Surviving are her husband, James; a son, Mele E. Dippel, Ventura, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Lois Meadors, Bethany, and a brother, Emmitt Greear, Omaha, Neb.
