Given name may have been Anna Gertrude, but most records have her using the name Gertrude. Daughter of Mitchell (Michael) Wolf (1847-1927) and Rebecca Catherine Hill Wolf (1847-1925). Her father immigrated with his parents and siblings as a child in 1856 from Wurges, Bad Camberg, Germany, settling in what is today Rockne, Bastrop County along with many other families from the same German village. Her mother born in Missouri, came to Texas as a child as her parents were early Bastrop settlers. Gertrude grew up in a family of 4 brothers and 4 sisters (4 other siblings died as children. The family farmed and ranched in Bastrop and Guadalupe Counties.

Gertrude Wolf married Robert Patrick Ryan (1871-1937) in Guadalupe County, Texas on 2 Feb 1904. They were parents to two sons and two daughters. After her husband died in 1937, Gertrude moved to San Antonio near her brother and family until her death in 1962. She was returned to Luling City for burial next to her husband Robert.

Note that some researchers confuse Gertrude with her 1 year older sister Clara due to the wrong birth year written on her death certificate. The June 1880 census (not counted born in July), 1900 census calculates 1880 or 1881 for Gertrude still living with her parents (Clara is married to M. Farrell in 1889) and this gravestone have the correct years of birth - 1880. Clara was born in March 1879.
