Jo Anna Gertrude was the daughter of Michael "Mitchell" Wolf (1847-1927) and Rebecca Catherine Hill (1847-1925). Her father was one of many settlers to Rockne from Wurges, Bad Camberg, Germany who immigrated with his family as a child. Her mother was Rebecca Hill (1847-1925) who was born in Missouri and came to Texas as a child with her parents, early settlers in Bastrop County.
Rebecca married Michael "Mitchell" Wolf at Rockne on 24 Aug 1869. The lived in the cabin that Michael's parents had built on the Wolf property just north of what is today Bastrop and farmed and ranched in the region.
Jo Anna unfortunately died in 1873 and was buried in the small Wolf Cemetery near the cabin along side her grandparents, siblings and aunt. The church cemetery at Walnut Creek was not established until 1876 with just a few burials that year.
Today the cemetery is anchored with a simple marker for her grandparents, John Wolf Sr (1811-1868) and Catherine Bermbach Wolf (1809-1869) the original Wurges, Germany settlers.
