Joseph Francis Ireton's WWI Draft Registration Card, dated June 5, 1917, showed him to be single, his occupation as an unemployed barber and living in Chickasha, Grady Co., OK.

Transient's Body Found in Shack Here Today - Body of a transient, identified by records and papers found at the scene as Joe F. Ireton, 48, a resident of Oklahoma, was found in an adobe shack just east of the Southwestern ice plant early this morning. The man apparently had been dead for a week or more. The little shack where the body was found was not furnished, indicating that Ireton had merely crept in there to rest. He was lying on the floor and a blanket was spread over him. Discovered by Smith. Discovery of the body was made by a colored transient, giving the name of John Smith. He said that someone had stolen a small bag from him and that he was looking for it when he discovered the dead man. He reported his find to city police officers and R. H. Lutes, justice of the peace and ex-officio coroner, city officers and Bobby Johnson of the Johnson mortuary were led to the scene by Smith. There a canvas bag was found beside the body. It contained odds and ends of items such as transients carry with them. From a sugar ration book and a draft registration card identification of the man was obtained. He had registered for the selective service at Erick, Oklahoma, on April 1, 1942, and his description was: White, hazel eyes, black hair, ruddy complexion, age 48.
