S/O John Ireton and Mary (Johnson).

Joel Cephas Ireton was actually born in Indian Territory since Oklahoma didn't come into being until 1907. WWI Draft Card, June 5, 1917, shows is birthdate as "July 12, 1889" with his original signature as "Joel Ireton" and also lists him as "single".

His family lived in what was known then as the "Ireton Community", named after his father, John Ireton.

Alex Tribune, Alex, Grady Co., OK, Friday, January 31, 1919: "Buried at Ireton - The body of Joel C. Ireton, who died in Shawnee last week from pneumonia, was brought to Alex last Thursday and buried in the family burying ground at Ireton. He was raised in this community, where he had a wide acquaintance. A Short service was held at the cemetery, conducted by Rev. C. C. Williamson of this place. He is survived by five brothers, Henry and Jack of Chickasha, Joe and Rufus serving in the United States army and Tom in the Navy."
